Who is Music Lady?
Who is Music Lady?
Composer / Recording Artist
Sammie began writing songs in 1968 and shortly after, took her efforts to Nashville. There a publishing company sponsored a recording of her songs featuring her vocals, encouraged her
to become a professional singer / songwriter and take her music out to the public, to get response to her songs.
She followed their advice and began to perform as a pianist/vocalist. Too shy at first to perform her own songs, for the first few years Sammie specialized in romantic pop standards .
The first of Sammie's songwriting awards came in 1985. She became a professional songwriter in 1988, after receiving a first place award in the Royal Hawaiian/KCCN Radio Christmas Song Contest. Her winning entry, "Christmas in Hawaii Nei" as recorded by the Jive Sisters, was released in 1989.
Returning to the Pacific Northwest in 1991, Sammie teamed up with percussionist Rick Frye to form Heartbeat, a musical duo dedicated to upliftment and fun, and released her first album, "Temple of the Heart" - a live recording featuring twelve of her original songs.
In 1995, Sammie recorded and released her first solo album, "Hello, World - I Love You" featuring her keyboard/vocal renditions of heartfelt original songs about life and love.
In response to growing requests for recordings of her soothing harp music, in 1998 Sammie released two instrumental harp albums of her innovative compositions for musical massage:"Journey to the Ocean" (recorded live at the ocean) and "Journey Into the Heart."
Following the success of the two instrumental harp CDs, again in response to fans who wanted also to hear her sing with the harp, Sammie recorded “Journey of Love” - the third of the trilogy - and “In a World that’s Made of Love.”
Her bedside music with hospital and hospice patients and their families inspired the recording, “Light a Candle” - songs to help listeners through the process of grief and active grieving.
Recording project #8 is “From the Heart of Love” - all instrumental - heavenly harp and glorious guitar, featuring renowned jazz guitarist Rodney Jones of New York, combining several each of their original songs and improvisational duets. They debuted this CD in concert at The Old Church in Portland, Oregon in November 2009. Wide release is planned for the 2010 holiday season.
